The Passenger God
What might endless awareness without agency do to a mind?
A being witnesses existence but cannot intervene. Empathy could become depression, relentless attempts to gain power, or the belief that witnessing alone gives comfort.
Helplessness could become imagined responsibility. If the being thinks its thoughts cause suffering, suppressing every unwanted thought might feel like a moral duty. Coincidence could reinforce guilt or convince it that it has power.
Apathy could be indifference or exhausted compassion. Egomania could make every event seem personally significant. Malice could mean enjoying suffering while resenting the inability to cause it.
Searching could remain inquiry or become obsession and faith. Would the being seek a god above itself? Would it expect the universe's end to bring answers or release?
These responses could overlap and change. The same compassion might drive both obsessive control and withdrawal.
