The Old Face
If everyone's appearance changed, what would become beautiful?
Old images could preserve an ideal that later generations find unfamiliar or disturbing. Restoration might express identity, shame, or pressure to resemble a past nobody remembers.
Prosthetics could become clothing. A bare face might feel naked, even when everyone shares the features they conceal. Does shame come from the body or the rules around showing it?
Some might preserve old faces, others destroy their images, and others make the new form an ideal. Would that free people from beauty standards or replace them? Who would gain status through the new features or coverings?
Affection, familiarity, and public taste might give different answers.
